Welcome to Ivory Spire Univerity
The Ivory Spire - First Run #
The Ivory Spire requested assistance with an exploration into “the Green”. Researchers from Ivory Spire University had found mentions in an ancient text that there might have been life in “the Green”. They want to send an exploration into “the Green” to find these creatures to understand how they survive in “the Green”.
Three brave adventurers answered the call: Magog II, Kingfisher, and Taz. They had dinner with the expedition team and, the next morning, set out on the expedition. The researchers on the expedition team had found a hidden passageway on the lowest, known level of the spire that leads to levels further down in the spire. However, the researchers had not explored the staircase and were uncertain whether it would lead them far enough down inside the spire to abseil into “the Green”.
The exploration party descended many, many levels down inside the spire until they reached a room with a map on a pedestal. The map had a location marked on it. The party headed to the location and found a rubbery object, but a wall appeared behind them that trapped them in the corridor. A text appeared on the wall in front of them reading “keep your eyes here and you may escape”. The party eventually figured out that they all had to keep their eyes on the text and walk backward together to escape. The party then returned to the room with the map and noticed that there was a staircase marked on the map, but that all pathways to the staircase were blocked by walls. After some experimenting with the rubbery object that the party had found, they realized that they were able to erase walls on the map with it. They erased the walls that were blocking the access to the staircase and were able to get to the staircase. The party descended several more levels down before they came to a locked door. Next to the door was a written hint reading “say what goes with gold and silver”. The party worked out that the door was able to talk and after the door said the word “copper”, it opened.
On the other side of the door, at least 30 people armed with slings and wearing lab coats awaited the party. After a short conversation, the party deduced that these were rogue scientist from Ivory Spire University who had set up a hidden laboratory as well as living quarters to research ancient technologies, dangerous explosives, and “the Green”. The rogue scientists provided the party with multiple technologies that they had found to keep the effects of “the Green” at bay or thought to be otherwise useful throughout an exploration of “the Green”. They also informed the party that they in some of their former ancient texts they had found references to a former settlement located between spires C9 and C11, and invited the party to stay overnight. The laboratory and living quarters of the rogue scientist spanned multiple levels with the lowest level being only about 10 to 15 feet above the treetops of “the Green” and about 50 to 60 feet above the ground.
The party decided to stay overnight and, the next morning, descended to the lowest level inside the Ivory Spire, which was still about 40 to 50 feet above the ground. The whole exploration party abseiled to the ground without major incidents. Once on the ground the party decided to head south towards spire C11. About halfway towards spire C11, the party decided to shortcut toward the former settlement and head southeast. After about 3 hours, the party reached an area where “the Green” started to become noticeably thicker, but decided to proceed heading southeast. After about 15 minutes, some members of the party started to believe that the trees around them were moving. After about 30 minutes, the feeling intensified and the party was attacked by tree creatures of different sizes. The party managed to defend themselves and escape back into the less thick area of “the Green”. They deduced after the battle that the tree creatures seemed to have focused their attack on a party member who was carrying advanced technology that had been given to the party by the rogue scientist and that the tree creatures chose to destroy the advanced technology over attacking a party member. The party decided to proceed through less thick areas of “the Green” toward spire C11, and to take a long rest once they reached the bottom of spire C11.
The next morning, the expedition party continued east toward spire C9. After a short hike, the party came across ruins of a former settlement. When exploring the surrounding area, the party observed that “the Green” seemed less thick than elsewhere and discovered multiple large trees with pink leaves. After closer inspection of the pink trees, the party noticed wombat-like creatures with purple-blueish fur in some of them. In addition to the pink trees, the party discovered several other plants that were not entirely green. The party discovered a tree with pear-shaped yellow berries, a bush with purple leaves and blue berries, a bush with pink leaves and pale green berries, purple mushrooms, and red mushrooms with white dots. The researchers took plant samples and decided to take several wombats back with them, and the some of the adventurers decided to climb one of the pink trees to take a plant sample. When the adventurers climbed the pink tree, they noticed that breathing seemed to become easier as they were climbing higher up into the tree. While the researchers tried to catch some of the wombats, one of the researchers was bitten by a wombat. He was bleeding and his wounds were attended to. Once the researchers finished collecting plant samples and wombats, the exploration party started to head back towards spire C11. The party decided to once again take a long rest at the bottom of spire C11. One of the wombats escaped overnight and bit one of the adventurers, but otherwise the long rest was uneventful. The next morning, the exploration party returned to the Ivory Spire. Our adventurers returned to Hireling Hall, while the researchers began to analyze the plant samples and research the wombats.
